All of the south-western tip and hinterland of the Fleurieu Peninsula was taken up to explore for inferred buried IOCG-style copper-gold-uranium mineralisation which, by analogy with properties of the known eastern Gawler Craton occurrences, was postulated by Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) as likely to occur within the outcropping and shallowly buried Barossa Complex in the north-eastern (Myponga Inlier) and central (‘Talisker - Rapid Bay feature’) sectors of the licence area. Exploration completed by FMG during the first licence year was mainly devoted to making logistical preparations for planned ground and airborne gravity surveys, and for a campaign of surface geochemical sampling covering the licence area to canvass the presence of the IOCG pathfinder suite of trace elements, as well as in conducting detailed desktop reviews of available geoscientific data. The initial assessment made of the publically available data did not yield any untested new geophysical anomalies.
