This geochemical data package contains results lately obtained by DMITRE Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA) from the re-analysis of 24,266 calcrete samples originally collected by mineral exploration industry participants, that were subsequently deemed surplus to their requirements. In the first phase of the project, which addressed the composition of a subset of 2,692 selected calcrete samples, the elements gold, arsenic, nickel, copper, uranium, vanadium, silver, tungsten, cobalt, molybdenum, lead, zinc, antimony, bismuth, calcium, platinum, tellurium, gallium, selenium, manganese, cadmium, chromium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, thallium and thorium were determined by Amdel with its Method ARM10 (aqua regia leach followed by ICPOES/ICPMS determination, as appropriate), but for all sample subsets subsequently submitted for such analyses, the elements rubidium, potassium, cerium, lanthanum and aluminium were added. For a previous government study of Gawler Craton regolith geochemistry, existing analyses of 165,046 calcrete samples were contributed either directly or indirectly, by 24 companies, and were supplemented with additional analyses then done by the GSSA. Though well received, the database had a number of unavoidable limitations arising from the diversity of approaches to sampling and analysis. The current set of consistent analyses being undertaken by GSSA is intended to reduce this problem. The samples processed have largely been collected as part of gold exploration. The now enlarged analytical suite is intended to increase the dataset's utility in other forms of exploration.
