Source Data History: Source data are geological basin names mentioned in SA-GEODATA. Basin extents were determined by seismic mapping, literature research and peer discussions.

Processing Steps: Basin boundaries were drawn using ArcView.
Positional accuracy:Generally of the order of tens of kilometres. Subsurface boundaries depend on data density (wells, seismic, gravity and aeromagnetic data). The outlines of the basins show only two dimensions as seen at the Earth's surface. For those that are partly or entirely subsurface, the area projected up to the Earth's surface is shown.
      Attribute accuracy:99%
Logical consistency:Boundaries have been drawn approximately only, so there is some mismatch of fine spatial detail. Subsurface basin boundaries have been drawn to the level of accuracy possible with available data density.
Completeness:The spatial definitions of the boundaries are based on PIRSA's best current understanding. These boundaries will be refined in future as more mapping, drillhole and geophysical (e.g. seismic, magnetic, gravity) data are evaluated. Currently attribute data is sparse.
