This data package comprises all of the GIS-related technical elements of a preliminary basement solid geology interpretation, which has been undertaken by DSD for the purpose of updating a fundamental mineral exploration-guiding dataset applicable to a part of SA that has been the target of significant data acquisition in recent years. The area covered includes the eastern Gawler Craton, a known copper-gold province, as well as a large portion of the central Gawler Craton. The interpretation has been made for use at ~1:500 000 scale, and combines outcrop geology, geology seen in drillholes, and new interpretations of magnetic and gravity data. The solid geology map and spatial data are intended to represent crystalline basement stratigraphy, which is considered to be older than middle Mesoproterozoic in this region. This product includes the first use of several newly defined map units, notably the Peter Pan Supersuite, which replaces the Lincoln Complex and associated Kimban Orogeny granitoids.
