The Australian Lithospheric Architecture Magnetotelluric Project (AusLAMP) is a major new geophysical research program that is under way to map the electrical resistivity structure of the continental lithosphere, by utilising deep-sounding magnetotelluric (MT) data that is being progressively acquired via an eventual continent-wide deployment of long-period (10-10 000 s) magnetotelluric instruments in a half-degree interval (~55 km) grid of stations set across all of Australia. AusLAMP aims to provide constraints on the tectonic evolution of the continent and its hidden mineral exploration potential, as part of the UNCOVER initiative. Areas covered by this subset of the survey include the Mesoproterozoic Coompana Province, the mineral-rich Archaean-Proterozoic Gawler Craton that is in part buried beneath cover of the Neoproterozoic Stuart Shelf that extends across to the east to cover the Neoproterozoic Ikara-Flinders Ranges, and the western portion of the Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic Curnamona Province. The central Gawler Craton is imaged as a resistive zone having conductive margins which surround the core of the cratonic block at shallow upper mantle depths. The results of the inversions of the AusLAMP data highlight the correlative significance of using them in combination with geochemical data to generate fertility vectors for mineral systems.

Notes: Data package Version 1. Usage limitations: caution should be taken when interpreting structures at depths less than ~10 km or greater than ~200 km, as model sensitivities are low in these depth ranges. MT survey station positional accuracy is given to ~100 m. Geographic Locality: West-central, south-central and east-central South Australia Doc No: GDP 00090
