Public Calls are areas of land offered to petroleum explorers with the view to attracting exploration programs under formal licences. These calls areas are frequently accompanied by substantial data packages. Subsequent licences/permits may be issued under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (the P&GE Act supersedes the Petroleum Act 2000), Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982, or the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum. Exploration Licences/Permits provide exclusive tenure rights to explore for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum for a minimum of 5 or 6 years. Comment is sought on applications for Exploration Licences/Permits from numerous sources before granting. Exploration programs are subject to strict environmental and heritage conditions. Exploitation of identified resources must be made under separate petroleum production leases.

Source Data History: Public Call boundaries were sourced from internal documents. Public Call boundaries are defined to follow lines of latitude and longitude, based on potentially several geodetic datums. Processing Steps: Coordinates entered by keyboard from internal documents. Non GDA94 coordinates transformed into GDA94. Linework cleaned to remove duplicate arcs. Data adjusted for accurate state border and coastline. Where appropriate cadastral parcels removed from public call polygons. Associated attribute data also captured from internal documents.
Positional accuracy:Most boundary locations are constructed from lines of latitude and longitude, hence are scale independent. The accuracy of other boundaries is dependent upon the source, eg. state border, coastline, cadastre.
Attribute accuracy:Validation checks are performed periodically, resulting in an estimated 90% accuracy.
Logical consistency:The dataset contains no overshoots, undershoots or duplicate lines. All polygons representing public calls contain only one label.
Completeness:Spatial data is 100% complete. Associated attribute data is 100% complete.
