Petroleum Exploration Licence/Permit Applications

Location of all current Exploration Licence/Permit Applications issued under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (the P&GE Act supersedes the Petroleum Act 2000), Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982, or the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum. Exploration Licences/Permits provide exclusive tenure rights to explore for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum for a minimum of 5 or 6 years. Comment is sought on applications for Exploration Licences/Permits from numerous sources before granting. Exploration programs are subject to strict environmental and heritage conditions. Exploitation of identified resources must be made under separate petroleum production leases.
