An interpretation of Tertiary inverted palaeodrainage for South Australian Tertiary palaeodrainage systems, which are marked by silicified Tertiary fluvial sediments expressed as a topographic high by erosion of surrounding sediments. Those sediments and channel systems were interpreted from Landsat MSS, field data and geological mapping. The major use is in mineral exploration of palaeochannel deposits but contributes also to basic geological understanding of South Australian palaeodrainage systems, in conjunction with companion data of State geological map.

      Source data:
Tertiary inverted palaeochannels interpreted from the outcrops or drillcores in Tertiary palaeodrainage systems of South Australia, developed concurrently.
Polygons modified and extended on desktop GIS into interpreted areas using geological data and interpretations from Landsat MSS, SA Geology (100k), field data and geological mapping.

Accuracy variable, dependent in part on scale and quality of source data.
As dataset is partly interpretive, positional accuracy and boundaries are subject to alternative interpretation.
Geological attributes are based on interpretation of features in the subsurface which are not directly observable; thus they are subject to alternative interpretations.
