Release areas are areas of pastoral land, certain Crown land and state waters that the Minister responsible for the HRE Act has declared for renewable energy development. Release areas involve DEM working with native title groups, pastoralists and other landowners, representative organisations, communities, and interest groups to identify areas of land that can sustainably host large-scale renewable energy development. Renewable energy activities on designated land will only occur where the Minister has declared a release area. Once declared, release areas will be allocated through a competitive tender process, ensuring only the best projects and proponents are awarded the exclusive access to develop large-scale projects. Before declaring a release area, the Minister must consult on a proposed release area. Comments are sought from key stakeholders during a minimum 30-day consultation period. Following the consultation, the Minister, having taken into consideration the feedback and with the agreement of either the Minister for the Pastoral Land Management and Conservation Act 1989 (for pastoral land) or the Minister for the Harbors and Navigation Act 1993 (for state waters) will make a decision regarding the declaration of a release area. The declaration of a release area enables the Minister to open a call for tenders.

Source Data History: Public Call boundaries were sourced from internal documents. Public Call boundaries are defined to follow lines of latitude and longitude, based on potentially several geodetic datums. Processing Steps: Coordinates entered by keyboard from internal documents. Non GDA2020 coordinates transformed into GDA2020. Linework cleaned to remove duplicate arcs. Data adjusted for accurate state border and coastline. Where appropriate cadastral parcels removed from public call polygons. Associated attribute data also captured from internal documents.
Positional accuracy:Most boundary locations are constructed from lines of latitude and longitude, hence are scale independent. The accuracy of other boundaries is dependent upon the source, eg. state border, coastline, cadastre.
Attribute accuracy:Validation checks are performed periodically, resulting in an estimated 90% accuracy.
Logical consistency:The dataset contains no overshoots, undershoots or duplicate lines. All polygons representing public calls contain only one label.
Completeness:Spatial data is 100% complete. Associated attribute data is 100% complete.
