Source data include information submitted by mineral exploration companies as part of statutory reporting requirements, information from academic institutions, and information collected by Division of Minerals and Energy Resources and its predecessors. Hardcopy data were transcribed manually into SA_GEODATA or manually via project databases which were later uploaded. Some data were scanned using optical character recognition into project databases prior to upload. Data received in digital form were checked and corrected as necessary before upload into SA_GEODATA.
Positional accuracy:Variable depending on data source, after the introduction of GPS +/- 10cm. Prior to GPS +/- 1m for surveyed data. +/- 10m for barometer leveled surveys.
Attribute accuracy:Dependent on accuracy of source data. 99% for data produced by Division of Minerals and Energy Resources and its predecessors.
      Logical consistency:Highly consistent internally.
Completeness:80 percent of open file data sets since 1990. Statistics uncertain before this time.
