Since the first edition of this map was released in May 2007, the collection by the Department's Geological Survey of much new geoscientific data and interpretations arising from South Australian regional surveys and exploration activities has underscored the need for a second edition. Changes to the map include revised sediment boundaries based on newly acquired ASTER satellite nightime thermal imagery and AEM geophysical datasets, content reflecting the impletation of a modified approach to palaeodrainage mapping following feedback from industry, plus the inclusion of new drillhole stratigraphic data incorporating inputs from in-house biostratigraphic studies of samples obtained from recent company mineral exploration drilling for uranium and heavy mineral sands, and the addition of geological cross-sections illustrating inferred sediment and bedrock relationships.
