A guide to the walking trail within the historic Almanda Silver mine site located in the Scott Creek Conservation Park. The interpretive walking trail was established in conjunction with the Department of Mines and Energy. ALMANDA, copper ore was discovered in 1850 in host ironstone. The occurrence was worked for copper in 1850 via a number a shallow pits and shafts, with work soon abandoned as the rich surface ore proved to be of no depth extent. Silver was recognised in 1866, and a head stamp, amalgamation plant, furnace pumps and boilers were erected, and a great deal of work was done, via tunnels, shafts, with associated drives. Further lodes were recognised along Scotts Creek where argentiferous lodes were traced for several km. The main lode was worked intermittently into the 1870s, again in 1887, and from 1893-1902.
