With a view to providing facilities for settlers to establish themselves on the land that will be made available by the railway, the Government directed that a geological examination be made of a portion of this area with regard to the possibilities of underground water, and of obtaining such water supplies as would enable settlement to take place around them; and this Bulletin embodies the results obtained during two months spent in the field and in the course of 1,200 miles of travel.
