A new generation, first edition WINTINNA 1:250 000 scale geological map and explanatory notes have been published. These documents represent the conclusion of the Geological Survey of South Australia's geological mapping program undertaken in the region from the late 1960s to mid-1993, which resulted in the production of six digital 1:100 000 scale maps (Marla, Welbourn, Todmorden, Ouldburra, Wintinna and Arckaringa). Further refinements of surface units and subsurface stratigraphy, informed by geochronology and drillcore logging, were carried out between 2008 and 2014. Numerous South Australian Government geologists working for the Geological Survey and Energy Resources Div., besides external geological researchers, have added greatly to the geological, stratigraphic, structural and geochronological understanding of this region. Much of that work has relied significantly upon petroleum and mineral exploration industry drilling, seismic surveying, and basinal appraisals and modelling.
