The geological history of the present-day observable rocks that outcrop in the Clare Valley district of South Australia is described in easily understandable language by a SA Government geological mapping expert. His interpretative map depicting the local distribution of various rock units is accompanied by an explanation of their characteristics and origins, and is followed by a brief summary of post-depositional sediment history events and tectonic influences that have led to the types of landforms and remnant stratigraphic elements which are evident today.
