The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) has a responsibility to regulate geophysical operations in South Australia’s petroleum provinces. Energy resource exploration and development activities in South Australia are undertaken pursuant to the Energy Resources Act 2000 (the Act). All activities deemed as being regulated activities under the Act are required to be accompanied by an approved statement of environmental objectives before they can commence operation. This statement provides the framework by which environmental objectives will be achieved as well as the method by which they will be assessed. This field guide provides a pictorial indication of the assessment levels of achievement of environmental objectives for seismic operations in the Cooper Basin and is recommended to all persons interested in environmental management of petroleum operations. It should assist people to assess the performance of the seismic industry on a common basis.
