RB 25/00011 Report on diamond drilling marble deposits at Penrice near Angaston.

To support the production of soda ash at its Osborne plant in Adelaide, South Australia, ICI Australia has been obtaining crushed marble from the Barossa Valley region as process raw material. Since June 1945, the South Australian Department of Mines has been drilling on contract from ICI to prove up known deposits of marble on properties that ICI owns in the Angaston area. The present report details the results of diamond drilling performed to date on a marble horizon at Penrice, to determine the reserves of high grade marble available for open cut mining there. In addition, the author provides an overview of the regional geology of the Angaston Marble beds, besides commenting on aspects of marble quality and mining geology as observed in the existing ICI quarry at Angaston and in drill cores recovered from Penrice.
