Palynological analyses of eight cutting samples from the petroleum exploration drillhole McNamara 1, which was drilled in the onshore part of the Gambier-Otway Basins, show distinctive microfloristic assemblages. The oldest samples are dated as Late Cretaceous and correlate with the Tricolporites lillei Zone (for the depth interval 650-610 m), the Isabelidinium korojonense Zone (610-600 m) and the Forcipites longus Zone (600 m). The remaining samples are dated Tertiary, Late Paleocene to Early Eocene, and correlate with the Lygistepollenites balmei Zone and the Malvacipollis diversus Zone.
