Palynological analyses of eight cuttings and three sidewall core samples from the petroleum exploration drillhole Troas 1, in the SA offshore Otway Basin, show two distinctive microfloristic assemblages. The youngest samples are dated as Late Eocene, and correlate with the Middle Nothofagidites asperus Zone (Stover and Partridge, 1973) and correlative Cerebrocysta incompositum Dinoflagellate Zone (Harris, 1985). The oldest samples are dated as Late Cretaceous (Campanian-Santonian), and correlate with the Tricolporites apoxyexinus Spore-Pollen Zone and correlative Nelsoniella aceras and Isabelidinium cretaceum Dinoflagellate Zones (Helby et al., 1987).
