Approximately 30 square km of outcrop of Palaeoproterozoic basement rocks in the vicinity of Ameroo Hill were geologically mapped by the author at 1:10,000 scale, with the aim of identifying meso- and macroscopic rock structures and lithologically important marker horizons such as the Bimba Formation. A solid geology map was produced that provided the basis for his interpretation of the 3D structural geometry existing in this part of the Outalpa Inlier, such geometry to perhaps be taken as a model for disclosing the extent to which the regional stratigraphy has been modified and/or dismembered by subsequent deformation. Structural data (dip and dip azimuth of planes, plunge of lineations and fold axes, etc.) were collected from ~1450 sites, and thin section petrography was done on >70 rock samples so as to better understand their metamorphic history, and to differentiate between structures that formed at different times and under different metamorphic conditions.
