Palynological analyses of four drill cuttings samples taken from the Nalara Palaeochannel NR 3 and NR 4 drillholes, located in the eastern part of the Eucla Basin, show distinctive microfloral assemblages. The samples from both drillholes have been dated as Late Miocene, ranging into Early Pliocene, and contain assemblages characteristic of the Monotocidites galeatus Spore-Pollen Zone. The interpreted depositional environment changed with time from non-marine to littoral, then estuarine. Originally, an open woodland with Casuarina and eucalypts was present.
