The Division of Minerals and Energy's Mineral Resource Group (MRG) is the primary South Australian government agency responsible for administering the mineral resources industry in the state. It is a part of Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA). The 2003 Customer Satisfaction Survey was conducted to gauge the level of customer satisfaction with the range of services and information provided by the group. Customer service evaluation is a key strategic recommendation of the MRG self-assessment process, with the survey designed to provide feedback to executive and management in ways that the group is conducting its business. A similar survey was last conducted in 2000 by external consultants, Anderson and Associates. It is intended that the survey will be conducted on an ongoing bi-annual basis. In overall terms the majority of respondents hold the agency and its officers in very high esteem. In all comparisons with similar service providers in other states and territories, MRG was rated the best in Australia - this was re-affirmed in a number of separate comments made by respondents - such as "Best department in Australia" and "I rate the SA department more highly than any other in Australia". The Northern Territory was the closest to South Australia. In cross - MRG comparisons, Geoscientific and Tenement services were consistently the stand- out performers. A small number of areas were identified where improvements could be made such as information delivery, SARIG, native title, and timeliness.
