Palynological analyses of samples from Meadows Bore 1 indicate the presence of Late Miocene to Early Pliocene sediments, correlated with the Monotocidites galeatus Zone. At the base of the Tertiary interval examined it appears that a wet rainforest with Nothofagus subgenus Brassospora developed, as well as open woodland and grassland. Wet heath was present throughout the sequence. There is a decline of Nothofagus rainforest towards the top of the sediments. The marine depositional influence is moderate, with coastal swamps and bogs developed. Five local stages were able to be separated within the M. galeatus Zone, which correspond to significant changes in vegetation, climate and sea level. There are microfloristic similarities with other analysed samples from the Echunga Creek area, AG32P, and Chapel Hill area, all evidently sharing the same Late Tertiary age and depositional environment. Early Permian palynomorphs were identified in the lower sequence of Meadows Bore 1, and they are correlated with the Sakmarian stage 4a. They were part of the Gondwana Glossopteris non-marine flora, and the pollen record reflects dense gymnosperm woodland with subordinate ferns and bryophytes.
