This report presents the results of exploration on the Director of Mines E.L.A. 383 at Sleaford Bay during November, 2006. A number of samples of Carnot Gneiss, Hutchison Group and Donington Suite granitoids were collected from coastal exposures at Sleaford Bay and sent for geochemical analysis, in an attempt to determine the validity of an anomalous result obtained previously, which contained elevated Au (av. 2.5 g/t), Ag (19 g/t), Te (3.4 ppm) and Se (37.5 ppm). Samples taken from the same outcrop did not replicate the result, suggesting that mineralisation is restricted to a narrow zone which was missed in resampling, or that the sample was contaminated. Quartzofeldspathic gneiss of the Hutchison Group gave elevated scintillometer readings (~1400 cps), and contains elevated Th (470 ppm), while granitic gneiss of the Donington Suite gave elevated scintillometer readings (~1400 cps), and contains elevated Th (105 ppm) and REE, probably due to the presence of monazite, and slightly elevated U (8 ppm). Locally sourced heavy mineral sands weathering off garnet-bearing graphitic schist of the Hutchison Group gave elevated scintillometer readings (2000 cps), and contain elevated Th (1450 ppm), U (31.5 ppm), Zr (5250 ppm) and REE, probably due to the presence of monazite and zircon.
