This Report Book contains zircon U-Pb geochronological data obtained between December 2006 and June 2007, for rock samples derived from the Gawler Craton of South Australia. The geochronological study was undertaken as part of the National Geoscience Agreement, as a collaborative research programme conducted between the Commonwealth's Division of Minerals and Energy, the Department of Primary Industries and Resources, South Australia, and Geoscience Australia. The aim of the programme is to provide geochronological constraints on geodynamic and tectonic models for geological provinces of South Australia, and to help develop an improved geological and metallogenic geoscientific framework for these provinces. The subject document is a technical report describing samples analysed and the analytical results obtained for the Gawler Craton in Year 2 of the research collaboration, with a brief discussion of their geochronological interpretation. The broader geological implications of the data will later be published elsewhere. The complete data files, including data for the QGNG and Temora analytical standards, will be stored in the Geoscience Australia database, OZCHRON. A tabulated summary of the U-Pb zircon ages obtained in this study is presented herein, with supporting information about the sample processing, separated zircon grain morphology, geochronological data reduction, data presentation and contamination checking. Also included is background information about the field geological relationships of the rock samples studied, explaining the rationale for selection of the samples, plus their petrological descriptions and petrogenetic interpretations.
