In order to determine the underground water possibilities of the subject mapsheet area, a vehicle-borne ground reconnaissance was conducted over ten days during July-August 1952, followed in mid-August by several days of low-level aerial flight reconnaissance. From the results of this work it is considered that the chances of obtaining permanent reliable sources of potable underground water in this region are very poor. However, large supplies of very saline water should be available in any of the more defined totpographic depressions (salt lakes and clay pans). Horizontal sediments of unknown age were the only bedrock strata found to be exposed, while the majority of the area is covered by red sand dunes.
