Eyre 1 (total depth 1719 feet KB) and Gambanga 1 (TD 1283 feet KB) oil exploration wells, drilled in WA in the western part of the Eucla Basin, penetrated a succession of marine mainly Upper Eocene and Cretaceous rocks before entering crystalline basement. The maximum thickness of Tertiary strata penetrated was 1180 feet in Eyre 1. 530 feet of probably Cenomanian-Albian sediments occur in Eyre 1, compared with 510 feet in Gambanga 1.
