Deposits of the mineral kyanite (Al2 Si05), long known in the vicinity of Radium Hill, have been examined and re-sampled in order to assess their possible economic value. There are six known deposits of which three offer prospects of moderate tonnages, but only the largest one, Sprigg's deposits, affords easy access by a simple quarrying method. This deposit is estimated to contain 680, 000 tons of kyanite schist above the effective base of the hill on which it lies. Subject to confirmation of further sample results, the grade of this deposit is estimated at 6 1/2 percent kyanite.
