This structure map of north-eastern South Australia using the base of the Mesozoic as reference horizon, is based mainly on the seismic 'F' reflector and a few oil exploration wells. The map serves as a guide to the depth, areal extent and attitude of the Permian sediments where they underlie the Mesozoic sequence of the Great Artesian Basin. The three principal areas of Permian sediments are 1. Lower Permian of the Arckaringa Sub-basin and Boorthanna Trough south-west of Oodnadatta. 2. Lower Permian north of Lake Eyre in the Pedirka Basin. 3. Upper Permian gas-producing Gidgealpa Formation of the Coopers Creek Basin which extends from north-eastern South Australia into south-western Queensland. The last area is separated from the first two by the Birdsville Track Ridge, a north-northwest trending positive feature situated between Marree and Birdsville.
