A reservoir geology study of the Moomba and Gidgealpa Gas Fields in the South Australian Cooper Basin, which supply natural gas to Adelaide, has been undertaken to complement similar SADM studies of gas fields which are earmarked for development to supply the Sydney gas market. The aim has been to produce pay sand isoliths for each field so that estimates of the volume of Proven and Probable gas reserves contained within the individual structures may be obtained. Gas has been supplied to the Adelaide market from both subject gas fields since 1969. However, for the sake of this study it has been assumed that no depletion has occurred, and therefore where field gas-water interfaces have subsequently risen, their original depth has been taken as the gas pool limit. Because of the very different nature of the two fields, a different technique was used in each case to derive the volume of 2P gas. Accordingly, the methods and results for each field are dealt with separately.
