Drill cuttings taken from the depth interval 108-111 metres in mineral exploration borehole LC-43, which sampled a pale pink calcilutite that was intersected below clays and mudstone (here referred to the Cretaceous Marree Formation), were found to contain abundant leached wall fragments of several species of Archaeocyatha, and hence are of Early - lower Middle Cambrian age. The cuttings probably correlate with carbonates known from the Hawker Group in the Arrowie Basin. Archaeocyatha preserved as free calcareous pieces, in the way represented in this sample, are rarely described. This material is not silicified, and has probably been dissociated from a weathered Cambrian section immediately underlying the Palaeozoic / Mesozoic unconformity.
