Moorowie 1 intersected probable Cambrian and Adelaidean strata. A sample of drillcore from 3028.7 metres depth KB was seen in thin section to be a recrystallised intraclast / peloid grainstone and packstone, with authigenic quartz and feldspar but no shelly fossils. An oolitic limestone sample from 3027 metres depth revealed only authigenic quartz and dolomite in the mineral residue from acid dissolution. The organic residue is kerogenous but contains no microfossils other than possible degraded simple acritarchs of indeterminate age. The presence of a fragment of stromatolite in the thin section is not inconsistent with an Adelaidean age, but no definitive biostratigraphic dating can be provided.
