This bulletin describes the soil resources of the state's temperate or agricultural areas. For the first time comprehensive information (based on all new data) is presented in the one volume on the nature, key features, distribution, potential and limitations of South Australia's soils. The main body of the book is divided into 15 chapters, each describing a South Australian soil group. Double-page spreads describe constituent subgroup soils or soil types, of which there are 61. Photographs of representative soil profiles and landscapes help to highlight the characteristics of each soil. Emphasis is given to geological setting and soil-forming materials. Appendix 4 documents the nature, age and associated landscapes of the geological materials from which South Australia's soils have formed (including an image of each material). Areas of shallow bedrock and associated soils are highlighted in Chapter L.
