The ‘Connecting the cover to the basement in the central-western Gawler Craton’ project is part of the Geological Survey of South Australia’s ‘Gawler Phase 2 (GP2): Next Generation Mineral Systems Mapping’ project. The project aims to contribute to existing exploration strategies by integrating landscape pattern mapping and basement geological interpretations with surface and basement lineament extraction from diverse raster datasets (e.g., Digital Elevation Models, radiometrics, magnetics) using domain expert knowledge and automated pattern and line recognition techniques. The report provides examples of how the data, which have quantitative attributes, created by the lineament extraction can be analysed, and interpreted. The outcomes contribute to the understanding of the relationship between the fabric of the basement and the variability of the cover in the Central Gawler Craton and aim to assist mineral exploration.
