This report presents the results from zircon SHRIMP U–Pb geochronology on seventeen quartzofeldspathic samples from the central-western Gawler Craton. The samples were collected from stratigraphic units mapped as the Archaean to early Palaeoproterozoic Mulgathing Complex, and from Palaeo- to Mesoproterozoic units interpreted to intrude Mulgathing Complex basement. While the lithologies are broadly quartzofeldspathic and deformed, typically preserving gneissic fabrics, they have variable mineral assemblages and textures, with some samples interpreted to be metasedimentary and others interpreted to have a meta-igneous origin. One of the primary aims of this study is to characterise the protolithic character of the quartzofeldspathic lithologies to support future revised interpretations of the basement geology for the central-western Gawler Craton.
