The availability of rainwater, and possible harvesting techniques and storage media are investigated. Reasonable amounts of rainfall occur, but falls are interspersed by long droughts. There are problems with silting up of dams, and with protecting infrastructure from large runoff flows. Long term surface rainwater storage is impracticable because of excessive evaporation and resulting salinisation of the resource. Subsurface storage in aquifers appears feasible, but the aquifer storage capabilities have not yet been tested.
