Monitoring of pumping rates, water levels and rainfall at 30 producing water wells across 8 communities in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands, South Australia, has given better insight into water usage and aquifer performance. - Some communities are highly dependent on one well, and would have serious difficulties if that well should fail through aquifer depletion or mechanical failure. - Some aquifers are being depleted by natural drainage, independent of water usage. - Some aquifers are being recharged regularly, if rarely, while others may contain only fossil water.
