It has lately been shown that the gold grades previously determined from a standard laboratory analysis of grab, rock chip and channel samples collected from Mount Grainger Goldfield may be unreliable, due both to the ore mineralogy and to the patchy nature of the microscopically fine gold mineralisation, which produces a ‘nugget effect’ in assay sample splits. Consequently, at this time, the results of past assays of exploration bulk samples are considered to be the only reliable indication of gold grades. An inferred resource of 1 108 800 tonnes @ 2.0 g/t Au, for 71 305.2 ounces of gold bullion, has been demonstrated. The sampled mineralisation, lying along a 700 m long section of the line-of-lode, is open at both ends and also at depth, where a gold-enriched supergene zone is indicated. Treatment of large bulk samples is recommended for future testing of the gold potential, while the liberation of the considerable amount of fine gold that is physically trapped within iron oxide / manganese oxide complexes, via an acid leaching pre-treatment, is also recommended for all laboratory assay samples. Construction of an exploratory adit from the North Medora workings to the Mount Grainger mine is suggested, in order to bulk test the mineralised arkosic sandstone unit.
