On 10 April 2015, a workshop dealing with the spectral mineral analysis of drill core using HyLogger™ technology and specialist software was held at the South Australian Government's Glenside Drill Core Library complex. The workshop was hosted by the Department of State Development (DSD), and was the third spectral workshop to have been provided annually to interested parties as an adjunct to the South Australian Resources and Energy Investment Conference (SAREIC) that is held during the following week. Presentations and guided interactions with selected drill core were provided by invited contributors from CSIRO, the minerals industry, and DSD. Copies of the workshop presentations and supporting material make up the content of this report. The information is provided to encourage and assist users in evaluating and incorporating spectral data as part of their mineral exploration strategy. Continual improvements in interpretive software being marketed commercially as The Spectral Geologist™ (TSG), and modified approaches towards integrating visible, shortwave and thermal infrared data, have expanded the application and usefulness of spectral data for the minerals exploration industry plus other scientists working with government and research groups. Objectives of the 2015 annual workshop were to provide: • an overview of the principles of spectra data interpretation, • an introduction to TSG software and functionality, • an introduction to the spectral characteristics of minerals and their interpretation, • advice on integrating TSG analysis procedures with the practical aspects of core logging, • recently undertaken case study examples.
