This report details newly acquired Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP) U-Pb isotopic data for three samples from two drill holes in the Fowler Domain of the western Gawler Craton. During the late 1980s,stratigraphic drilling done by the South Australian Department of Mines and Energy into basement rocks of the south-eastern portion of the Fowler Domain recovered mafic and felsic gneisses in diamond drillholes Nundroo 2 and Nundroo 3. However, at that time and indeed until presently, few geochronological data have been available with which to understand the stratigraphic setting of these gneisses and the timing of their metamorphism. A drill core sample of metamorphosed quartz diorite (R2115496) from Nundroo 3, after recently undergoing SHRIMP analysis, has now yielded a magmatic crystallisation age of 1607 ± 6 Ma, which indicates that this diorite is part of the St Peter Suite. A second drill core sample (R2115514), of garnet-bearing quartzofeldspathic gneiss taken from Nundroo 2, has yielded a magmatic crystallisation age of 1616 ± 5 Ma, with minor inheritance at 1656 ± 12 Ma. This sample is also part of the St Peter Suite, albeit of more aluminous composition in comparison to other samples of the magmatic suite. Metamorphic overgrowths on igneous zircon crystals present in this second sample yield an age of 1574 ± 4 Ma. A third drill core sample (R2115501), of metagabbro taken from Nundroo 2, has yielded a zircon crystallisation age of 1564 ± 8 Ma; this dates a period of high grade metamorphism, irrespective of whether the zircon in the gabbro is of igneous or metamorphic origin. The age is within uncertainty of the timing of metamorphic zircon growth in the garnet-bearing quartzo-feldspathic gneiss from the same drill hole. High grade metamorphism at c. 1570 Ma indicates that the Kararan Orogeny affected this portion of the Fowler Domain.
