The Geological Survey of South Australia is in the process of scanning the State (custodial) drill core collection with a HyLogger™ spectral core scanner, whereby to date ~210 km of core from 852 drillholes have been scanned. As it stood formerly, the resulting digital HyLogger™ spectral data required users to have access to specialist software to view, process and create configured outputs of the data, and there were also technical limitations to visualising the data derived from multiple drillholes. To overcome these issues, a new workflow and automated scripts were developed by the authors to re-process 'Level 1' HyLogger™ spectral data so that they are in a consistent format that is more readily accessible to the broader geoscientific community. Hyperspectral data from all open file South Australian drillhole cores that had been scanned with the HyLogger™ prior to April 2016 were subsequently re-processed using the new workflow, and then were loaded into a spectral database subset that is currently managed on the DSD network by the GSSA for the purposes of continuing to contribute to GOCAD-based computer 3D modelling of drill core - derived geological data.
