A search for possible diamondiferous kimberlites was undertaken over three separate areas close by Mulgathing Station Homestead. Reconnaissance heavy mineral sampling of residual soils and stream gravels, plus bulk sampling of 14 costeans cut into 6 ultramafic plugs, with an analysis of heavy mineral concentrates from 1500 kg of rock, did not reveal any kimberlitic indicators. The ultrabasic intrusives were shown to have undergone regional metamorphism to at least amphibolite facies, and to have lost all traces of their primary mineralogy, besides now being highly weathered in outcrop and subcrop. They seem to have no clear kimberlitic affinities, based on petrological and mineralogical evidence.
