Zinc Corp. has prepared the subject historical summary of the Moonta and Wallaroo mines based on previous third party reviews of sectors of the mining operations, as well as on contemporary records found in the press and controlling company annual reports to shareholders. The resulting information gives a valuable insight into the economic activities pursued and critical management decisions made over an effective 61-years long period of business, from the mines' discovery in 1860 until their closure in 1923. An interesting fact to emerge here is that there is not a single outcrop of the ore-bearing Precambrian bedrock within three or more miles of the productive area. Therefore an important aim of the present historical researches was to try to determine how the old-time prospectors quite rapidly located all of the veins that they did, and also to assess how thoroughly and by what methods the intervening areas have been prospected.
