Exploration in the Moonabie area, located 40 km south-west of Whyalla, was aimed at possible concealed epithermal or Alligator Rivers (NT) type stratabound uranium occurrences within the Lower Proterozoic metasedimentary/metavolcanic sequence. Detailed 1:25,000 scale geological mapping by a consultant geologist, plus petrological studies of rock chip samples, and the results of an alpha-cup radon soil gas survey complemented by radiation spectrometric check analyses of the surficial sediments, have all failed to give encouragement for further work, although the north-eastern part of the licence area has basement geology which is comparable to that seen surrounding the Jabiluka 2 orebody, in the consultant's opinion.
