Percussion drilling (17 inclined or vertical holes totalling 1287 m) and resistivity surveys were undertaken by Seltrust Mining over an area lying immediately to the north-northwest of Burra, in a search for possible structurally controlled copper mineralisation. However, very poor open hole drilling conditions, downhole sample contamination, and largely ambiguous resistivity results limited the potential for clearly identifying buried extensions to the Kingston Fault breccia and the presence of possible carbonaceous siltstone lode marker beds. After Adelaide and Wallaroo Fertilizers took over operating the licence, seeking to prove up known secondary copper ore resources as additional feed for their Burra processing plant, the majority of subsequent exploration work was undertaken 13 km south-east of Burra, where RAB and percussion drilling in the Princess Royal prospect area (143 and 31 holes respectively totalling 2660 m and 843 m) has outlined limited tonnages of near-surface oxidised copper ore. Further percussion drilling at the nearby Edelweiss prospect (2 holes for 62 m) failed to define remaining economic quantities of similar ore.
