All of a licence area lying to the east of Morgan, and sections of the Kia Ora, Canegrass, Pine Valley and Blanchetown licence areas adjoining, have been relinquished following the drilling of three rotary mud vertical open holes totalling 707 m in a search for lignite, targeting the Tertiary upper Renmark Beds of the Murray Basin. Only thin lignite bands were intersected in one hole. The depth of burial of the top of the upper Renmark Beds in all of these areas is generally >130 m. Elevated copper and zinc values of up to 6400 ppm Cu and 4700 ppm Zn were returned from assaying of six bottomhole sediment samples in hole 81MBR54, but their cause was indeterminate.
