As part of a search for possible alluvial diamonds, within gravels of probable Tertiary age which may have been derived from a nearby area known to contain kimberlitic rocks, 4 stream sediment samples and 7 bulk samples were taken and processed to determine their heavy mineral content. No diamonds were found, but all of the bulk samples yielded significant counts of kimberlite indicator grains, and contained a broad assemblage of igneous and metamorphic rock gangue minerals. Because of the discovery of kimberlite indicator minerals within EL 516, an aeromagnetic survey was flown during October 1980 in an attempt to locate possible kimberlites there. However, no characteristic magnetic anomalies were recognised in the relinquished portion of the licence.
