Geological mapping, further surface geochemical sampling, test IP surveys and limited shallow diamond drilling (2 holes, total 201.3 m, including 147 m of NQ/BQ wireline coring) were done over a previously identified stream sediment zinc anomaly at Black Range Springs prospect, located approximately 33 km east of Beltana. This work disclosed willemite-galena mineralisation ranging in grade from 1100-22,000 ppm Zn and 120-2400 ppm Pb that is finely dispersed both within the upper 300 feet of the Cambrian Wilkawillina Limestone primary host and as minor remobilized ore in manganiferous breccia zones of an intruding diapir, over a length of almost 1 km along the diapir/limestone contact. After making a careful analysis of the apparent controls to mineralisation, and comparisons with characteristics of the nearby Ediacara and Puttapa zinc mineral occurrences, it was concluded that the subject prospect's lack of similar alteration and structural development, plus the uneconomic zinc grade, meant that further work on it could not be justified.
