Following an airborne magnetic/radiometric survey, two rotary percussion holes totalling 819 m were drilled on negative magnetic anomalies to reach pre-Mesozoic basement (gabbro and meta-sandstone) in the Koonalda area of the Nullarbor Plain. No anomalous mineralisation was recognised. The size and strength of the magnetic anomalies investigated can be explained by a large, regional, multi-stage basic intrusion that was reversely magnetized, and now has a remanent magnetism that is stronger than its ambient induced magnetic response.
