Exploration over the now surrendered ground, which had been successively incorporated within ELs 301, 513 and 769, was initially directed at a search for stratabound base metal deposits which might exist within the flat-lying Neoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic metasedimentary sequence of the Stuart Shelf. However, the eventual drilling of 23 vertical percussion holes (total penetration 4799 m) and one diamond hole (to TD 320 m) failed to intersect significant mineralisation. Work performed during the latest licence tenure period has consisted of flying four low level aeromagnetic / radiometric survey traverses across the Norton Dam magnetic / radiometric anomaly, followed by the percussion drilling on this prospect grid of one vertical precollar hole, to 390 m total depth, in preparation for a planned second, deeper diamond drillhole to look for Olympic Dam - style mineralisation. Hole PIL19 remained in Pandurra Formation for its entire length, penetrating the complete sequence of lithologies recognised from drilling elsewhere on the Stuart Shelf. No significant geochemical anomalism was recorded from this drillhole. Variable magnetic susceptibilities read from drill cuttings are attributed to differing amounts of magnetite and ilmenite and heavy mineral laminae in the units, but do not indicate that the source of the magnetic anomaly lies within the Pandurra interval. Indeed, Seltrust's subsequent geophysical data interpretations have indicated that the estimated depth to crystalline basement here is probably in excess of 1 km, which factor, together with the lack of recognisable coincident gravity / magnetic responses, has served to discourage undertaking any further exploration.
